Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord.

At the king’s command, couriers went throughout Israel and Judah with letters from the king and from his officials, which read: “People of Israel, return to the Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, that he may return to you who are left, who have escaped from the hand of the kings of Assyria.

If you return to the Lord, then your fellow Israelites and your children will be shown compassion by their captors and will return to this land, for the Lord your God is gracious and compassionate. He will not turn his face from you if you return to him.”

I have considered my ways and have turned my steps to your statutes.

Tremble and do not sin; when you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent.

Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.

Because they consider all the offenses they have committed and turn away from them, that person will surely live; they will not die.

But you must return to your God; maintain love and justice, and wait for your God always.

Then I will return to my lair until they have borne their guilt and seek my face— in their misery they will earnestly seek me.”

“Come, let us return to the Lord. He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us; he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds.

First to those in Damascus, then to those in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and then to the Gentiles, I preached that they should repent and turn to God and demonstrate their repentance by their deeds.

Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup.

But if we were more discerning with regard to ourselves, we would not come under such judgment.

Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?

When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the Lord your God and obey him.
