We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly person who does his will.

So when God destroyed the cities of the plain, he remembered Abraham, and he brought Lot out of the catastrophe that overthrew the cities where Lot had lived.

Now return the man’s wife, for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you will live. But if you do not return her, you may be sure that you and all who belong to you will die.”

He does not answer when people cry out because of the arrogance of the wicked.

Indeed, God does not listen to their empty plea; the Almighty pays no attention to it.

They cried for help, but there was no one to save them— to the Lord, but he did not answer.

Moses and Aaron were among his priests, Samuel was among those who called on his name; they called on the Lord and he answered them.

The Lord is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous.

Whoever shuts their ears to the cry of the poor will also cry out and not be answered.

If anyone turns a deaf ear to my instruction, even their prayers are detestable.

When you spread out your hands in prayer, I hide my eyes from you; even when you offer many prayers, I am not listening. Your hands are full of blood!

Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I. “If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk,

Therefore this is what the Lord says: ‘I will bring on them a disaster they cannot escape. Although they cry out to me, I will not listen to them.

Although they fast, I will not listen to their cry; though they offer burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them. Instead, I will destroy them with the sword, famine and plague.”

Then the Lord said to me: “Even if Moses and Samuel were to stand before me, my heart would not go out to this people. Send them away from my presence! Let them go!

Therefore I will deal with them in anger; I will not look on them with pity or spare them. Although they shout in my ears, I will not listen to them.”

Then they will cry out to the Lord, but he will not answer them. At that time he will hide his face from them because of the evil they have done.

“ ‘When I called, they did not listen; so when they called, I would not listen,’ says the Lord Almighty.

But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.”

You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.

“My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.

Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.

The man answered, “Now that is remarkable! You don’t know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes.

Nobody has ever heard of opening the eyes of a man born blind.

You came back and wept before the Lord, but he paid no attention to your weeping and turned a deaf ear to you.

Then I said, ‘Here I am—it is written about me in the scroll— I have come to do your will, my God.’ ”
