The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake.

“Would a wise person answer with empty notions or fill their belly with the hot east wind?

Will your long-winded speeches never end? What ails you that you keep on arguing?

“When will you end these speeches? Be sensible, and then we can talk.

Do you mean to correct what I say, and treat my desperate words as wind?

that God would be willing to crush me, to let loose his hand and cut off my life!

“Therefore I will not keep silent; I will speak out in the anguish of my spirit, I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

Then Bildad the Shuhite replied:

So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said to him, “This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: ‘How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, so that they may worship me.

Pharaoh’s officials said to him, “How long will this man be a snare to us? Let the people go, so that they may worship the Lord their God. Do you not yet realize that Egypt is ruined?”

“How long will you who are simple love your simple ways? How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools hate knowledge?

The prophets are but wind and the word is not in them; so let what they say be done to them.”
