They are higher than the heavens above—what can you do? They are deeper than the depths below—what can you know?

Destruction and Death say, “Only a rumor of it has reached our ears.”

For now I would be lying down in peace; I would be asleep and at rest

Death and Destruction lie open before the Lord— how much more do human hearts!

Death and Destruction are never satisfied, and neither are human eyes.

The realm of the dead below is all astir to meet you at your coming; it rouses the spirits of the departed to greet you— all those who were leaders in the world; it makes them rise from their thrones— all those who were kings over the nations.

He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him.

Though they dig down to the depths below, from there my hand will take them. Though they climb up to the heavens above, from there I will bring them down.

Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

They had as king over them the angel of the Abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon and in Greek is Apollyon (that is, Destroyer).
