“When will you end these speeches? Be sensible, and then we can talk.

Ten times now you have reproached me; shamelessly you attack me.

You have all seen this yourselves. Why then this meaningless talk?

“As surely as God lives, who has denied me justice, the Almighty, who has made my life bitter,

“How long will you say such things? Your words are a blustering wind.

How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?

My bones suffer mortal agony as my foes taunt me, saying to me all day long, “Where is your God?”

His talk is smooth as butter, yet war is in his heart; his words are more soothing than oil, yet they are drawn swords.

See what they spew from their mouths— the words from their lips are sharp as swords, and they think, “Who can hear us?”

They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim cruel words like deadly arrows.

The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?”

With such nagging she prodded him day after day until he was sick to death of it.
