Their roar is like that of the lion, they roar like young lions; they growl as they seize their prey and carry it off with no one to rescue.

You are a lion’s cub, Judah; you return from the prey, my son. Like a lion he crouches and lies down, like a lioness—who dares to rouse him?

“Consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces, with no one to rescue you:

I send him against a godless nation, I dispatch him against a people who anger me, to seize loot and snatch plunder, and to trample them down like mud in the streets.

This is what the Lord says to me: “As a lion growls, a great lion over its prey— and though a whole band of shepherds is called together against it, it is not frightened by their shouts or disturbed by their clamor— so the Lord Almighty will come down to do battle on Mount Zion and on its heights.

No lion will be there, nor any ravenous beast; they will not be found there. But only the redeemed will walk there,

But this is a people plundered and looted, all of them trapped in pits or hidden away in prisons. They have become plunder, with no one to rescue them; they have been made loot, with no one to say, “Send them back.”

That is all they are to you— these you have dealt with and labored with since childhood. All of them go on in their error; there is not one that can save you.

Lions have roared; they have growled at him. They have laid waste his land; his towns are burned and deserted.

A lion has come out of his lair; a destroyer of nations has set out. He has left his place to lay waste your land. Your towns will lie in ruins without inhabitant.

“Like a lion coming up from Jordan’s thickets to a rich pastureland, I will chase Edom from its land in an instant. Who is the chosen one I will appoint for this? Who is like me and who can challenge me? And what shepherd can stand against me?”

“Israel is a scattered flock that lions have chased away. The first to devour them was the king of Assyria; the last to crush their bones was Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.”

Her people all roar like young lions, they growl like lion cubs.

They will follow the Lord; he will roar like a lion. When he roars, his children will come trembling from the west.

The lion has roared— who will not fear? The Sovereign Lord has spoken— who can but prophesy?

The remnant of Jacob will be among the nations, in the midst of many peoples, like a lion among the beasts of the forest, like a young lion among flocks of sheep, which mauls and mangles as it goes, and no one can rescue.

Where now is the lions’ den, the place where they fed their young, where the lion and lioness went, and the cubs, with nothing to fear?

Her officials within her are roaring lions; her rulers are evening wolves, who leave nothing for the morning.

Listen to the wail of the shepherds; their rich pastures are destroyed! Listen to the roar of the lions; the lush thicket of the Jordan is ruined!

Like a lion they crouch and lie down, like a lioness—who dares to rouse them? “May those who bless you be blessed and those who curse you be cursed!”
