The Lord then said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation.

The animals going in were male and female of every living thing, as God had commanded Noah. Then the Lord shut him in.

“If only you would hide me in the grave and conceal me till your anger has passed! If only you would set me a time and then remember me!

Rescue me from my enemies, Lord, for I hide myself in you.

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

you grant them relief from days of trouble, till a pit is dug for the wicked.

The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.

The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.

Very soon my anger against you will end and my wrath will be directed to their destruction.”

“Woe to the Assyrian, the rod of my anger, in whose hand is the club of my wrath!

They come from faraway lands, from the ends of the heavens— the Lord and the weapons of his wrath— to destroy the whole country.

The Lord is angry with all nations; his wrath is on all their armies. He will totally destroy them, he will give them over to slaughter.

I have put my words in your mouth and covered you with the shadow of my hand— I who set the heavens in place, who laid the foundations of the earth, and who say to Zion, ‘You are my people.’ ”

“Listen to me, my people; hear me, my nation: Instruction will go out from me; my justice will become a light to the nations.

When you see this, your heart will rejoice and you will flourish like grass; the hand of the Lord will be made known to his servants, but his fury will be shown to his foes.

I will satisfy the priests with abundance, and my people will be filled with my bounty,” declares the Lord.

but I gave them this command: Obey me, and I will be your God and you will be my people. Walk in obedience to all I command you, that it may go well with you.

“Therefore say: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Although I sent them far away among the nations and scattered them among the countries, yet for a little while I have been a sanctuary for them in the countries where they have gone.’

“The king will do as he pleases. He will exalt and magnify himself above every god and will say unheard-of things against the God of gods. He will be successful until the time of wrath is completed, for what has been determined must take place.

Seek the Lord, all you humble of the land, you who do what he commands. Seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you will be sheltered on the day of the Lord’s anger.

“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.

But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
