But now the Lord says: “Within three years, as a servant bound by contract would count them, Moab’s splendor and all her many people will be despised, and her survivors will be very few and feeble.”

Jacob heard that Laban’s sons were saying, “Jacob has taken everything our father owned and has gained all this wealth from what belonged to our father.”

Haman boasted to them about his vast wealth, his many sons, and all the ways the king had honored him and how he had elevated him above the other nobles and officials.

So look away from him and let him alone, till he has put in his time like a hired laborer.

“Do not mortals have hard service on earth? Are not their days like those of hired laborers?

They will swoop down on the slopes of Philistia to the west; together they will plunder the people to the east. They will subdue Edom and Moab, and the Ammonites will be subject to them.

My heart cries out over Moab; her fugitives flee as far as Zoar, as far as Eglath Shelishiyah. They go up the hill to Luhith, weeping as they go; on the road to Horonaim they lament their destruction.

This is the word the Lord has already spoken concerning Moab.

“In that day the glory of Jacob will fade; the fat of his body will waste away.

This is what the Lord says to me: “Within one year, as a servant bound by contract would count it, all the splendor of Kedar will come to an end.

The Lord Almighty planned it, to bring down her pride in all her splendor and to humble all who are renowned on the earth.

The hand of the Lord will rest on this mountain; but Moab will be trampled in their land as straw is trampled down in the manure.

They will stretch out their hands in it, as swimmers stretch out their hands to swim. God will bring down their pride despite the cleverness of their hands.

for before the boy knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right, the land of the two kings you dread will be laid waste.

Moab will be destroyed as a nation because she defied the Lord.

This is what the Lord says: “Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches,

Rather, be openhanded and freely lend them whatever they need.
