“Woe to him who builds his house by unjust gain, setting his nest on high to escape the clutches of ruin!

The terror you inspire and the pride of your heart have deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rocks, who occupy the heights of the hill. Though you build your nest as high as the eagle’s, from there I will bring you down,” declares the Lord.

You who live by many waters and are rich in treasures, your end has come, the time for you to be destroyed.

Even if Babylon ascends to the heavens and fortifies her lofty stronghold, I will send destroyers against her,” declares the Lord.

Her officials within her are like wolves tearing their prey; they shed blood and kill people to make unjust gain.

Though you soar like the eagle and make your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down,” declares the Lord.

Woe to them! They have taken the way of Cain; they have rushed for profit into Balaam’s error; they have been destroyed in Korah’s rebellion.
