Jacob made love to Rachel also, and his love for Rachel was greater than his love for Leah. And he worked for Laban another seven years.

Leah had weak eyes, but Rachel had a lovely figure and was beautiful.

Jacob was in love with Rachel and said, “I’ll work for you seven years in return for your younger daughter Rachel.”

So Jacob served seven years to get Rachel, but they seemed like only a few days to him because of his love for her.

Laban gave his servant Bilhah to his daughter Rachel as her attendant.

When the Lord saw that Leah was not loved, he enabled her to conceive, but Rachel remained childless.

Does he not regard us as foreigners? Not only has he sold us, but he has used up what was paid for us.

It was like this for the twenty years I was in your household. I worked for you fourteen years for your two daughters and six years for your flocks, and you changed my wages ten times.

And we answered, ‘We have an aged father, and there is a young son born to him in his old age. His brother is dead, and he is the only one of his mother’s sons left, and his father loves him.’

“Your servant my father said to us, ‘You know that my wife bore me two sons.

Jacob fled to the country of Aram; Israel served to get a wife, and to pay for her he tended sheep.

“Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

“If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple.

Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

If a man has two wives, and he loves one but not the other, and both bear him sons but the firstborn is the son of the wife he does not love,
