Moses reported this to the Israelites, but they did not listen to him because of their discouragement and harsh labor.

“Is my complaint directed to a human being? Why should I not be impatient?

They made their lives bitter with harsh labor in brick and mortar and with all kinds of work in the fields; in all their harsh labor the Egyptians worked them ruthlessly.

Didn’t we say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians’? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!”

During that long period, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites groaned in their slavery and cried out, and their cry for help because of their slavery went up to God.

and they said, “May the Lord look on you and judge you! You have made us obnoxious to Pharaoh and his officials and have put a sword in their hand to kill us.”

Then the Lord said to Moses,

Evildoers will bow down in the presence of the good, and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

The human spirit can endure in sickness, but a crushed spirit who can bear?

They traveled from Mount Hor along the route to the Red Sea, to go around Edom. But the people grew impatient on the way;
