I prayed to the Lord and said, “Sovereign Lord, do not destroy your people, your own inheritance that you redeemed by your great power and brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand.

And who is like your people Israel—the one nation on earth that God went out to redeem as a people for himself, and to make a name for himself, and to perform great and awesome wonders by driving out nations and their gods from before your people, whom you redeemed from Egypt?

for they are your people and your inheritance, whom you brought out of Egypt, out of that iron-smelting furnace.

For you singled them out from all the nations of the world to be your own inheritance, just as you declared through your servant Moses when you, Sovereign Lord, brought our ancestors out of Egypt.”

“They are your servants and your people, whom you redeemed by your great strength and your mighty hand.

So he said he would destroy them— had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him to keep his wrath from destroying them.

Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story— those he redeemed from the hand of the foe,

Save your people and bless your inheritance; be their shepherd and carry them forever.

Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me, for in you I take refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed.

With your mighty arm you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph.

They remembered that God was their Rock, that God Most High was their Redeemer.

Moses and Aaron were among his priests, Samuel was among those who called on his name; they called on the Lord and he answered them.

In your unfailing love you will lead the people you have redeemed. In your strength you will guide them to your holy dwelling.

If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people.”

“Lord,” he said, “if I have found favor in your eyes, then let the Lord go with us. Although this is a stiff-necked people, forgive our wickedness and our sin, and take us as your inheritance.”

Sing for joy, you heavens, for the Lord has done this; shout aloud, you earth beneath. Burst into song, you mountains, you forests and all your trees, for the Lord has redeemed Jacob, he displays his glory in Israel.

We are yours from of old; but you have not ruled over them, they have not been called by your name.

For the sake of your name do not despise us; do not dishonor your glorious throne. Remember your covenant with us and do not break it.

Then the Lord said to me: “Even if Moses and Samuel were to stand before me, my heart would not go out to this people. Send them away from my presence! Let them go!

“Look, Lord, and consider: Whom have you ever treated like this? Should women eat their offspring, the children they have cared for? Should priest and prophet be killed in the sanctuary of the Lord?

I brought you up out of Egypt and redeemed you from the land of slavery. I sent Moses to lead you, also Aaron and Miriam.

That prophet or dreamer must be put to death for inciting rebellion against the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt and redeemed you from the land of slavery. That prophet or dreamer tried to turn you from the way the Lord your God commanded you to follow. You must purge the evil from among you.

Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and the Lord your God redeemed you. That is why I give you this command today.

Accept this atonement for your people Israel, whom you have redeemed, Lord, and do not hold your people guilty of the blood of an innocent person.” Then the bloodshed will be atoned for,

For the Lord’s portion is his people, Jacob his allotted inheritance.

But it was because the Lord loved you and kept the oath he swore to your ancestors that he brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

Then the Lord told me, “Go down from here at once, because your people whom you brought out of Egypt have become corrupt. They have turned away quickly from what I commanded them and have made an idol for themselves.”

Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Overlook the stubbornness of this people, their wickedness and their sin.

But they are your people, your inheritance that you brought out by your great power and your outstretched arm.”

who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption.

And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.

Then Samuel took a suckling lamb and sacrificed it as a whole burnt offering to the Lord. He cried out to the Lord on Israel’s behalf, and the Lord answered him.
