Deuteronomy 9:19

New International Version

I feared the anger and wrath of the Lord, for he was angry enough with you to destroy you. But again the Lord listened to me.

At Horeb they made a calf and worshiped an idol cast from metal.

So he said he would destroy them— had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him to keep his wrath from destroying them.

When God heard them, he was furious; he rejected Israel completely.

Moses and Aaron were among his priests, Samuel was among those who called on his name; they called on the Lord and he answered them.

Then the Lord relented and did not bring on his people the disaster he had threatened.

And the Lord said to Moses, “I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name.”

Then the Lord said: “I am making a covenant with you. Before all your people I will do wonders never before done in any nation in all the world. The people you live among will see how awesome is the work that I, the Lord, will do for you.

When the people cried out to Moses, he prayed to the Lord and the fire died down.

Now I had stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights, as I did the first time, and the Lord listened to me at this time also. It was not his will to destroy you.

Then the Lord’s anger will burn against you, and he will shut up the heavens so that it will not rain and the ground will yield no produce, and you will soon perish from the good land the Lord is giving you.

And the Lord was angry enough with Aaron to destroy him, but at that time I prayed for Aaron too.

At Horeb you aroused the Lord’s wrath so that he was angry enough to destroy you.

The sight was so terrifying that Moses said, “I am trembling with fear.”
