“The Lord has kept the promise he made. I have succeeded David my father and now I sit on the throne of Israel, just as the Lord promised, and I have built the temple for the Name of the Lord, the God of Israel.

So Solomon sat on the throne of his father David, and his rule was firmly established.

When your days are over and you go to be with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom.

“Now, my son, the Lord be with you, and may you have success and build the house of the Lord your God, as he said you would.

Of all my sons—and the Lord has given me many—he has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the Lord over Israel.

We are foreigners and strangers in your sight, as were all our ancestors. Our days on earth are like a shadow, without hope.

So Solomon sat on the throne of the Lord as king in place of his father David. He prospered and all Israel obeyed him.

Solomon son of David established himself firmly over his kingdom, for the Lord his God was with him and made him exceedingly great.

There I have placed the ark, in which is the covenant of the Lord that he made with the people of Israel.”

Nevertheless, you are not the one to build the temple, but your son, your own flesh and blood—he is the one who will build the temple for my Name.’

Generations come and generations go, but the earth remains forever.
