After seeking advice, the king made two golden calves. He said to the people, “It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Here are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.”

And this thing became a sin; the people came to worship the one at Bethel and went as far as Dan to worship the other.

On the fifteenth day of the eighth month, a month of his own choosing, he offered sacrifices on the altar he had built at Bethel. So he instituted the festival for the Israelites and went up to the altar to make offerings.

Solomon showed his love for the Lord by walking according to the instructions given him by his father David, except that he offered sacrifices and burned incense on the high places.

“As for you, if you walk before me faithfully with integrity of heart and uprightness, as David your father did, and do all I command and observe my decrees and laws,

and even Judah did not keep the commands of the Lord their God. They followed the practices Israel had introduced.

He followed the ways of the kings of Israel, as the house of Ahab had done, for he married a daughter of Ahab. He did evil in the eyes of the Lord.

He built up the fortified cities of Judah, since the land was at peace. No one was at war with him during those years, for the Lord gave him rest.

Jotham grew powerful because he walked steadfastly before the Lord his God.

He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, just as his father David had done.

He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and followed the ways of his father David, not turning aside to the right or to the left.

“Though you, Israel, commit adultery, do not let Judah become guilty. “Do not go to Gilgal; do not go up to Beth Aven. And do not swear, ‘As surely as the Lord lives!’

Both of them were righteous in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commands and decrees blamelessly.

encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.

As for other matters, brothers and sisters, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more.
