Asa did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, as his father David had done.

He expelled the male shrine prostitutes from the land and got rid of all the idols his ancestors had made.

Although he did not remove the high places, Asa’s heart was fully committed to the Lord all his life.

And Abijah rested with his ancestors and was buried in the City of David. Asa his son succeeded him as king, and in his days the country was at peace for ten years.

He removed the foreign altars and the high places, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles.

King Asa also deposed his grandmother Maakah from her position as queen mother, because she had made a repulsive image for the worship of Asherah. Asa cut it down, broke it up and burned it in the Kidron Valley.

His heart was devoted to the ways of the Lord; furthermore, he removed the high places and the Asherah poles from Judah.

He followed the ways of his father Asa and did not stray from them; he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord.

Jehoram received a letter from Elijah the prophet, which said: “This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: ‘You have not followed the ways of your father Jehoshaphat or of Asa king of Judah.

When all this had ended, the Israelites who were there went out to the towns of Judah, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles. They destroyed the high places and the altars throughout Judah and Benjamin and in Ephraim and Manasseh. After they had destroyed all of them, the Israelites returned to their own towns and to their own property.

This is what Hezekiah did throughout Judah, doing what was good and right and faithful before the Lord his God.

he tore down the altars and the Asherah poles and crushed the idols to powder and cut to pieces all the incense altars throughout Israel. Then he went back to Jerusalem.

Do not bow down before their gods or worship them or follow their practices. You must demolish them and break their sacred stones to pieces.

in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.

Break down their altars, smash their sacred stones and burn their Asherah poles in the fire; cut down the idols of their gods and wipe out their names from those places.
