At that time Ahaziah son of Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, “Let my men sail with yours,” but Jehoshaphat refused.

The king had a fleet of trading ships at sea along with the ships of Hiram. Once every three years it returned, carrying gold, silver and ivory, and apes and baboons.

Now Jehoshaphat built a fleet of trading ships to go to Ophir for gold, but they never set sail—they were wrecked at Ezion Geber.

Then Jehoshaphat rested with his ancestors and was buried with them in the city of David his father. And Jehoram his son succeeded him as king.

King Solomon also built ships at Ezion Geber, which is near Elath in Edom, on the shore of the Red Sea.

And Hiram sent his men—sailors who knew the sea—to serve in the fleet with Solomon’s men.

They sailed to Ophir and brought back 420 talents of gold, which they delivered to King Solomon.

Later, Jehoshaphat king of Judah made an alliance with Ahaziah king of Israel, whose ways were wicked.

As we have heard, so we have seen in the city of the Lord Almighty, in the city of our God: God makes her secure forever.
