1 Chronicles 17:1

New International Version

After David was settled in his palace, he said to Nathan the prophet, “Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of the covenant of the Lord is under a tent.”

The Lord sent Nathan to David. When he came to him, he said, “There were two men in a certain town, one rich and the other poor.

and because the Lord loved him, he sent word through Nathan the prophet to name him Jedidiah.

They brought the ark of the Lord and set it in its place inside the tent that David had pitched for it, and David sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings before the Lord.

And the king was told, “Nathan the prophet is here.” So he went before the king and bowed with his face to the ground.

The king has sent with him Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, the Kerethites and the Pelethites, and they have put him on the king’s mule,

“My father David had it in his heart to build a temple for the Name of the Lord, the God of Israel.

Now Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, along with cedar logs, stonemasons and carpenters to build a palace for him.

After David had constructed buildings for himself in the City of David, he prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it.

They brought the ark of God and set it inside the tent that David had pitched for it, and they presented burnt offerings and fellowship offerings before God.

Nathan replied to David, “Whatever you have in mind, do it, for God is with you.”

I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought Israel up out of Egypt to this day. I have moved from one tent site to another, from one dwelling place to another.

Then he called for his son Solomon and charged him to build a house for the Lord, the God of Israel.

David said to Solomon: “My son, I had it in my heart to build a house for the Name of the Lord my God.

King David rose to his feet and said: “Listen to me, my fellow Israelites, my people. I had it in my heart to build a house as a place of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord, for the footstool of our God, and I made plans to build it.

As for the events of King David’s reign, from beginning to end, they are written in the records of Samuel the seer, the records of Nathan the prophet and the records of Gad the seer,

Now David had brought up the ark of God from Kiriath Jearim to the place he had prepared for it, because he had pitched a tent for it in Jerusalem.

till I find a place for the Lord, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

“Make the tabernacle with ten curtains of finely twisted linen and blue, purple and scarlet yarn, with cherubim woven into them by a skilled worker.

“Does it make you a king to have more and more cedar? Did not your father have food and drink? He did what was right and just, so all went well with him.

I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at home in my palace, contented and prosperous.

“Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?”

“You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why?” declares the Lord Almighty. “Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with your own house.

who enjoyed God’s favor and asked that he might provide a dwelling place for the God of Jacob.
