The Lord God then asked the woman: What is this you have done? The woman answered, “The snake tricked me, so I ate it.”

He is chasing ashes! A deluded mind has led him astray; He cannot save himself, does not say, “This thing in my right hand—is it not a fraud?”

More tortuous than anything is the human heart, beyond remedy; who can understand it?

The terror you spread, the pride of your heart, beguiled you. You denizens of rocks and crevices, occupying towering peaks: Though you build your nest high as the eagle, from there I will bring you down—oracle of the Lord.

The pride of your heart has deceived you— you who dwell in mountain crevices, in your lofty home, Who say in your heart, “Who will bring me down to earth?”

since no human being will be justified in his sight by observing the law; for through the law comes consciousness of sin. Justification Apart from the Law.

Did the good, then, become death for me? Of course not! Sin, in order that it might be shown to be sin, worked death in me through the good, so that sin might become sinful beyond measure through the commandment.

But sin, finding an opportunity in the commandment, produced in me every kind of covetousness. Apart from the law sin is dead.

that you should put away the old self of your former way of life, corrupted through deceitful desires,

Encourage yourselves daily while it is still “today,” so that none of you may grow hardened by the deceit of sin.

Be doers of the word and not hearers only, deluding yourselves.

If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, his religion is vain.
