Then one of the seraphim flew to me, holding an ember which he had taken with tongs from the altar.

And he said to the man dressed in linen: Go within the wheelwork under the cherubim; fill both your hands with burning coals from the place among the cherubim, then scatter them over the city. As I watched, he entered.

Thereupon a cherub stretched out a hand from among the cherubim toward the fire in the midst of the cherubim, took some, and put it in the hands of the one dressed in linen. He took it and came out.

“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “the one who is and who was and who is to come, the almighty.” The First Vision.

When he broke open the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been slaughtered because of the witness they bore to the word of God.
