Relent, O Lord! How long? Have pity on your servants!

For the Lord defends his people, shows mercy to his servants.

Turn back, Lord, rescue my soul; save me because of your mercy.

How long, O God, will the enemy jeer? Will the enemy revile your name forever?

Turn back again, God of hosts; look down from heaven and see; Visit this vine,

Why should the Egyptians say, ‘With evil intent he brought them out, that he might kill them in the mountains and wipe them off the face of the earth’? Turn from your burning wrath; change your mind about punishing your people.

So the Lord changed his mind about the punishment he had threatened to inflict on his people.

Why do you make us wander, Lord, from your ways, and harden our hearts so that we do not fear you? Return for the sake of your servants, the tribes of your heritage.

But after uprooting them, I will have compassion on them again and bring them back, each to their heritage, each to their land.

How could I give you up, Ephraim, or deliver you up, Israel? How could I treat you as Admah, or make you like Zeboiim? My heart is overwhelmed, my pity is stirred.

The Lord relented concerning this. “This shall not be,” said the Lord God.

Who knows? God may again repent and turn from his blazing wrath, so that we will not perish.”

Therefore, thus says the Lord: I return to Jerusalem in mercy; my house will be rebuilt there—oracle of the Lord of hosts— and a measuring line will be stretched over Jerusalem.

And when it came to rest, he would say, “Bring back, O Lord, the myriads of Israel’s troops!”

Surely, the Lord will do justice for his people; on his servants he will have pity. When he sees their strength is gone, and neither bond nor free is left,
