Why should the nations say, “Where is their God?” Before our eyes make known to the nations that you avenge the blood of your servants which has been poured out.
I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God; and you will know that I, the Lord, am your God who has freed you from the burdens of the Egyptians
As when brushwood is set ablaze, or fire makes the water boil! Then your name would be made known to your enemies and the nations would tremble before you,
Let all their evil come before you and deal with them As you have so ruthlessly dealt with me for all my rebellions. My groans are many, my heart is sick.”
But I will show the holiness of my great name, desecrated among the nations, in whose midst you desecrated it. Then the nations shall know that I am the Lord—oracle of the Lord God—when through you I show my holiness before their very eyes.
Between the porch and the altar let the priests weep, let the ministers of the Lord weep and say: “Spare your people, Lord! do not let your heritage become a disgrace, a byword among the nations! Why should they say among the peoples, ‘Where is their God?’” The Lord Relents.
When my enemy sees this, shame shall cover her: She who said to me, “Where is the Lord, your God?” My eyes shall see her downfall; now she will be trampled underfoot, like mud in the streets.
Exult with him, you heavens, bow to him, all you divine beings! For he will avenge the blood of his servants, take vengeance on his foes; He will requite those who hate him, and purge his people’s land.
