You listen, Lord, to the needs of the poor; you strengthen their heart and incline your ear.

Once the Lord has rebuilt Zion and appeared in glory,

“The Lord looked down from the holy heights, viewed the earth from heaven,

Some lived in darkness and gloom, imprisoned in misery and chains.

Those who say, “By our tongues we prevail; when our lips speak, who can lord it over us?”

secures justice for the oppressed, who gives bread to the hungry. The Lord sets prisoners free;

The poor will eat their fill; those who seek the Lord will offer praise. May your hearts enjoy life forever!”

My soul will glory in the Lord; let the poor hear and be glad.

Look to him and be radiant, and your faces may not blush for shame.

Father of the fatherless, defender of widows— God in his holy abode,

Do not be afraid of anything that you are going to suffer. Indeed, the devil will throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will face an ordeal for ten days. Remain faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
