Do you indeed pronounce justice, O gods; do you judge fairly you children of Adam?
Even their descendants you will wipe out from the earth, their offspring from the human race.
A psalm of Asaph. God takes a stand in the divine council, gives judgment in the midst of the gods.
Can unjust judges be your allies, those who create burdens by decree,
And still under the sun in the judgment place I saw wickedness, and wickedness also in the seat of justice.
Ah! Those who enact unjust statutes, who write oppressive decrees,
The way of the just is smooth; the path of the just you make level.
There are those in you who take bribes to shed blood. You exact interest and usury; you extort profit from your neighbor by violence. But me you have forgotten—oracle of the Lord God.
Within her, her officials are like wolves tearing prey, shedding blood and destroying lives to extort profit.
But we call the arrogant blessed; for evildoers not only prosper but even test God and escape.”
