In those days Hezekiah became mortally ill. He prayed to the Lord, who answered him by giving him a sign.

Behold, God will not cast away the upright; neither will he take the hand of the wicked.

May their guilt be always before the Lord, till their memory is banished from the earth,

Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, saves those whose spirit is crushed.

Look to him and be radiant, and your faces may not blush for shame.

you destroy those who speak falsely. A bloody and fraudulent man the Lord abhors.

You rebuked the nations, you destroyed the wicked; their name you blotted out for all time.

He will call upon me and I will answer; I will be with him in distress; I will deliver him and give him honor.

The memory of the just serves as blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot.

Before they call, I will answer; while they are yet speaking, I will hear.

I will set my face against them and make them a sign and a byword, and cut them off from the midst of my people. Thus you shall know that I am the Lord.

Though they go into captivity before their enemies, there I will command the sword to slay them. I will fix my gaze upon them for evil and not for good.

I said: I will make an end of them and blot out their name from human memory,
