“You who fear the Lord, give praise! All descendants of Jacob, give honor; show reverence, all descendants of Israel!
In danger I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me free.
My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? Why so far from my call for help, from my cries of anguish?
To you they cried out and they escaped; in you they trusted and were not disappointed.
Look to him and be radiant, and your faces may not blush for shame.
My very bones shall say, “O Lord, who is like you, Who rescue the afflicted from the powerful, the afflicted and needy from the despoiler?”
Answer me, Lord, in your generous love; in your great mercy turn to me.
Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit”; and when he had said this he breathed his last.
In the days when he was in the flesh, he offered prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence.
