Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God, and all the people, their hands raised high, answered, “Amen, amen!” Then they knelt down and bowed before the Lord, their faces to the ground.

Let my prayer be incense before you; my uplifted hands an evening offering.

I will wash my hands in innocence so that I may process around your altar, Lord,

Hear the sound of my pleading when I cry to you for help when I lift up my hands toward your holy place.

O God, you are my God— it is you I seek! For you my body yearns; for you my soul thirsts, In a land parched, lifeless, and without water.

For your love is better than life; my lips shall ever praise you!

I will bless you as long as I live; I will lift up my hands, calling on your name.

Let us lift up our hearts as well as our hands toward God in heaven!

It is my wish, then, that in every place the men should pray, lifting up holy hands, without anger or argument.
