May he draw our hearts to himself, that we may walk in his ways and keep the commands, statutes, and ordinances that he enjoined on our ancestors.

The wicked even boast of their greed; these robbers curse and scorn the Lord.

Do not let my heart incline to evil, to perform deeds in wickedness. On the delicacies of evildoers let me not feast.

You will let me hear gladness and joy; the bones you have crushed will rejoice.

But you should also look among all the people for able and God-fearing men, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain, and set them over the people as commanders of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens.

I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me always, for their own good and the good of their children after them.

My people come to you, gathering as a crowd and sitting in front of you to hear your words, but they will not act on them. Love songs are on their lips, but in their hearts they pursue dishonest gain.

Ah! you who pursue evil gain for your household, setting your nest on high to escape the reach of misfortune!

Then he said to the crowd, “Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.” Parable of the Rich Fool.

The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all these things and sneered at him.

Immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be mentioned among you, as is fitting among holy ones,

Put to death, then, the parts of you that are earthly: immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and the greed that is idolatry.

Tell the rich in the present age not to be proud and not to rely on so uncertain a thing as wealth but rather on God, who richly provides us with all things for our enjoyment.

Let your life be free from love of money but be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never forsake you or abandon you.”

Their eyes are full of adultery and insatiable for sin. They seduce unstable people, and their hearts are trained in greed. Accursed children!

In their greed they will exploit you with fabrications, but from of old their condemnation has not been idle and their destruction does not sleep. Lessons from the Past.
