But may the Lord give you prudence and discernment when he gives you command over Israel, so that you keep the law of the Lord, your God.

And to mortals he said: See: the fear of the Lord is wisdom; and avoiding evil is understanding.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; prudent are all who practice it. His praise endures forever.

With all my heart I seek you; do not let me stray from your commandments.

I have more understanding than my elders, because I keep your precepts.

Through your precepts I gain understanding; therefore I hate all false ways.

I am your servant; give me discernment that I may know your testimonies.

The revelation of your words sheds light, gives understanding to the simple.

Your testimonies are forever righteous; give me understanding that I may live.

Let my cry come before you, Lord; in keeping with your word, give me understanding.

Blessed those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with all their heart.

I entreat you with all my heart: have mercy on me in accord with your promise.

Teach me wisdom and knowledge, for in your commandments I trust.

The arrogant smear me with lies, but I keep your precepts with all my heart.

Your hands made me and fashioned me; give me understanding to learn your commandments.

I said, “I will watch my ways, lest I sin with my tongue; I will keep a muzzle on my mouth.”

Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

“Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock.

Whoever chooses to do his will shall know whether my teaching is from God or whether I speak on my own.

Observe them carefully, for this is your wisdom and discernment in the sight of the peoples, who will hear of all these statutes and say, “This great nation is truly a wise and discerning people.”

But the one who peers into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres, and is not a hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, such a one shall be blessed in what he does.

But if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and he will be given it.

Do not speak evil of one another, brothers. Whoever speaks evil of a brother or judges his brother speaks evil of the law and judges the law. If you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge.
