When there were no deeps I was brought forth, when there were no fountains or springs of water;
and the earth was without form or shape, with darkness over the abyss and a mighty wind sweeping over the waters—
Have you entered into the sources of the sea, or walked about on the bottom of the deep?
I will proclaim the decree of the Lord, he said to me, “You are my son; today I have begotten you.
The flood waters covered them, they sank into the depths like a stone.
By his knowledge the depths are split, and the clouds drop down dew.
And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we saw his glory, the glory as of the Father’s only Son, full of grace and truth.
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.
For the Father loves his Son and shows him everything that he himself does, and he will show him greater works than these, so that you may be amazed.
For to which of the angels did God ever say: “You are my son; this day I have begotten you”? Or again: “I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me”?
In this way the love of God was revealed to us: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might have life through him.
