Blessed be the Lord, your God, who has been pleased to place you on the throne of Israel. In his enduring love for Israel, the Lord has made you king to carry out judgment and justice.”

When all Israel heard the judgment the king had given, they were in awe of him, because they saw that the king had in him the wisdom of God for giving right judgment.

Give your servant, therefore, a listening heart to judge your people and to distinguish between good and evil. For who is able to give judgment for this vast people of yours?”

The governors, one for each month, provided food for King Solomon and for all the guests at King Solomon’s table. They left nothing unprovided.

And of all my sons—for the Lord has given me many sons—he has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the Lord’s kingship over Israel.

Give me, therefore, wisdom and knowledge to govern this people, for otherwise who could rule this vast people of yours?”

God then replied to Solomon: Because this has been your wish—you did not ask for riches, treasures, and glory, or the life of those who hate you, or even for a long life for yourself, but you have asked for wisdom and knowledge in order to rule my people over whom I have made you king—

And now, kings, give heed; take warning, judges on earth.

O mighty king, lover of justice, you have established fairness; you have created just rule in Jacob.

By justice a king builds up the land; but one who raises taxes tears it down.

By me princes govern, and nobles, all the judges of the earth.

I will restore your judges as at first, and your counselors as in the beginning; After that you shall be called city of justice, faithful city.

In those days, at that time, I will make a just shoot spring up for David; he shall do what is right and just in the land.

He causes the changes of the times and seasons, establishes kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who understand.

All this happened to King Nebuchadnezzar.

All who live on the earth are counted as nothing; he does as he wills with the powers of heaven and with those who live on the earth. There is no one who can stay his hand or say to him, “What have you done?”

Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

Let every person be subordinate to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been established by God.

Then I saw the heavens opened, and there was a white horse; its rider was [called] “Faithful and True.” He judges and wages war in righteousness.

He has a name written on his cloak and on his thigh, “King of kings and Lord of lords.”

The Lord said to Samuel: How long will you grieve for Saul, whom I have rejected as king of Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and be on your way. I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem, for from among his sons I have decided on a king.

When Samuel caught sight of Saul, the Lord assured him: This is the man I told you about; he shall govern my people.
