In the land of Uz there was a blameless and upright man named Job, who feared God and avoided evil.

And to mortals he said: See: the fear of the Lord is wisdom; and avoiding evil is understanding.

I do not allow into my presence anything base. I hate wrongdoing; I will have no part of it.

Through your precepts I gain understanding; therefore I hate all false ways.

Thus, I follow all your precepts; every wrong way I hate.

The Lord is on high, but cares for the lowly and knows the proud from afar.

You who love the Lord, hate evil, he protects the souls of the faithful, rescues them from the hand of the wicked.

The midwives, however, feared God; they did not do as the king of Egypt had ordered them, but let the boys live.

The mouth of the just yields wisdom, but the perverse tongue will be cut off.

The way of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but he loves one who pursues justice.

Pride goes before disaster, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

Every proud heart is an abomination to the Lord; be assured that none will go unpunished.

By steadfast loyalty guilt is expiated, and by the fear of the Lord evil is avoided.

Do not be wise in your own eyes, fear the Lord and turn away from evil;

Dishonest mouth put away from you, deceitful lips put far from you.

Scoundrels, villains, are they who deal in crooked talk.

Thus I will punish the world for its evil and the wicked for their guilt. I will put an end to the pride of the arrogant, the insolence of tyrants I will humble.

Hate evil and love good, and let justice prevail at the gate; Then it may be that the Lord, the God of hosts, will have pity on the remnant of Joseph.

The Lord God has sworn by his very self— an oracle of the Lord, the God of hosts: I abhor the pride of Jacob, I hate his strongholds, and I will hand over the city with everything in it;

Let none of you plot evil against another in your heart, nor love a false oath. For all these things I hate—oracle of the Lord. Three Oracles: Judah and the Nations.

Let love be sincere; hate what is evil, hold on to what is good;

Refrain from every kind of evil. Concluding Prayer.

Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands, bearing this inscription, “The Lord knows those who are his”; and, “Let everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord avoid evil.”

Likewise, you younger members, be subject to the presbyters. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility in your dealings with one another, for: “God opposes the proud but bestows favor on the humble.”

Speak boastfully no longer, Do not let arrogance issue from your mouths. For an all-knowing God is the Lord, a God who weighs actions.
