The mouth of the foreign woman is a deep pit; whoever incurs the Lord’s anger will fall into it.

Your eyes behold strange sights, and your heart utters incoherent things;

Indeed, the lips of the stranger drip honey, and her mouth is smoother than oil;

Keeping you from another’s wife, from the smooth tongue of the foreign woman.

That they may keep you from a stranger, from the foreign woman with her smooth words.

And you say, “Why?”— Because the Lord is witness between you and the wife of your youth With whom you have broken faith, though she is your companion, your covenanted wife.

For I hate divorce, says the Lord, the God of Israel, And the one who covers his garment with violence, says the Lord of hosts. You should be on guard, then, for your life, and you must not break faith.
