Instead they gave me poison for my food; and for my thirst they gave me vinegar.

“How long, you naive ones, will you love naivete,

The lips of the just nourish many, but fools die for want of sense.

The wise person is cautious and turns from evil; the fool is reckless and gets embroiled.

For her path sinks down to death, and her footsteps lead to the shades.

By their own iniquities the wicked will be caught, in the meshes of their own sin they will be held fast;

But those who pass me by do violence to themselves; all who hate me love death.”

You naive ones, gain prudence, you fools, gain sense.

Little do they know that the shades are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol!

I in turn will choose affliction for them and bring upon them what they fear. Because when I called, no one answered, when I spoke, no one listened. Because they did what was evil in my sight, and things I do not delight in they chose,

Your own wickedness chastises you, your own infidelities punish you. Know then, and see, how evil and bitter is your forsaking the Lord, your God, And your showing no fear of me, oracle of the Lord, the God of hosts.

Woe to those who are complacent in Zion, secure on the mount of Samaria, Leaders of the first among nations, to whom the people of Israel turn.

Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever disobeys the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains upon him.

Cursed be your grain basket and your kneading bowl!

See that you do not reject the one who speaks. For if they did not escape when they refused the one who warned them on earth, how much more in our case if we turn away from the one who warns from heaven.

If you are without discipline, in which all have shared, you are not sons but bastards.

You have lived on earth in luxury and pleasure; you have fattened your hearts for the day of slaughter.
