They found it written in the law commanded by the Lord through Moses that the Israelites should dwell in booths during the feast of the seventh month;
and Jacob broke camp for Succoth. There Jacob built a home for himself and made booths for his livestock. That is why the place was named Succoth.
They also kept the feast of Booths in the manner prescribed, and they offered the daily burnt offerings in the proper number required for each day.
On the second day, the heads of ancestral houses of the whole people, and also the priests and the Levites, gathered around Ezra the scribe to study the words of the law.
Tell the Israelites: The fifteenth day of this seventh month is the Lord’s feast of Booths, which shall continue for seven days.
But the Jewish feast of Tabernacles was near.
