So I reprimanded and cursed them; I beat some of their men and pulled out their hair; and I adjured them by God: “You shall not marry your daughters to their sons nor accept any of their daughters for your sons or for yourselves!

The prophet turned and saw them, and he cursed them in the name of the Lord. Then two she-bears came out of the woods and tore forty-two of the children to pieces.

I was extremely angry when I heard the reasons for their complaint.

Rage seizes me because of the wicked; they forsake your law.

Who disdains the wicked, but honors those who fear the Lord; Who keeps an oath despite the cost,

And when you take their daughters as wives for your sons, and their daughters prostitute themselves with their gods, they will make your sons do the same.

Those who abandon instruction praise the wicked, but those who keep instruction oppose them.

I gave my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who tore out my beard; My face I did not hide from insults and spitting.

The Lord, your God, shall you fear; him shall you serve, and by his name shall you swear.

You shall not intermarry with them, neither giving your daughters to their sons nor taking their daughters for your sons.

For if you ever turn away from him and join with the remnant of these nations that survive among you, by intermarrying and intermingling with them,
