For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Just as my furious wrath was poured out upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so shall my anger be poured out on you when you reach Egypt. You shall become a malediction and a horror, a curse and a reproach, and you shall never see this place again.

You must say this to him. Thus says the Lord: What I have built, I am tearing down; what I have planted, I am uprooting: all this land.

Listen! the fugitives, the refugees from the land of Babylon: They announce in Zion the retribution of the Lord, our God.

The roads to Zion mourn, empty of pilgrims to her feasts. All her gateways are desolate, her priests groan, Her young women grieve; her lot is bitter.

The presence of the Lord was their portion, but he no longer looks upon them. The priests are shown no regard, the elders, no mercy.

The Lord’s anointed—our very lifebreath!— was caught in their snares, He in whose shade we thought to live among the nations.

Princes have been hanged by them, elders shown no respect.

He ignored his oath, breaking his covenant; even though he gave his hand, he did all these things— he shall not escape!

I will lay waste your cities and desolate your sanctuaries, refusing your sweet-smelling offerings.

as on festival days. I will remove disaster from among you, so that no one may recount your disgrace.

I, therefore, have made you contemptible and base before all the people, For you do not keep my ways, but show partiality in your instruction.
