John 7:39

He said this in reference to the Spirit that those who came to believe in him were to receive. There was, of course, no Spirit yet, because Jesus had not yet been glorified. Discussion About the Origins of the Messiah.

God’s chariots were myriad, thousands upon thousands; from Sinai the Lord entered the holy place.

How long will you turn away at my reproof? [The arrogant delight in their arrogance, and fools hate knowledge.] Lo! I will pour out to you my spirit, I will acquaint you with my words:

With joy you will draw water from the fountains of salvation,

Until the spirit from on high is poured out on us. And the wilderness becomes a garden land and the garden land seems as common as forest.

I will pour out water upon the thirsty ground, streams upon the dry land; I will pour out my spirit upon your offspring, my blessing upon your descendants.

They replied, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

And the crowds replied, “This is Jesus the prophet, from Nazareth in Galilee.” The Cleansing of the Temple.

And [behold] I am sending the promise of my Father upon you; but stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.” The Ascension.

John answered them all, saying, “I am baptizing you with water, but one mightier than I is coming. I am not worthy to loosen the thongs of his sandals. He will baptize you with the holy Spirit and fire.

Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, exclaiming, “A great prophet has arisen in our midst,” and “God has visited his people.”

So they asked him, “What are you then? Are you Elijah?” And he said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” He answered, “No.”

They asked him, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Messiah or Elijah or the Prophet?”

I did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘On whomever you see the Spirit come down and remain, he is the one who will baptize with the holy Spirit.’

His disciples did not understand this at first, but when Jesus had been glorified they remembered that these things were written about him and that they had done this for him.

Jesus answered them, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.

And whatever you ask in my name, I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

The Advocate, the holy Spirit that the Father will send in my name—he will teach you everything and remind you of all that [I] told you.

He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.

But I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I go. For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.

When Jesus had said this, he raised his eyes to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come. Give glory to your son, so that your son may glorify you,

Now glorify me, Father, with you, with the glory that I had with you before the world began.

And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the holy Spirit.

When the people saw the sign he had done, they said, “This is truly the Prophet, the one who is to come into the world.”

And there was considerable murmuring about him in the crowds. Some said, “He is a good man,” [while] others said, “No; on the contrary, he misleads the crowd.”

Jesus answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory is worth nothing; but it is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say, ‘He is our God.’

He said to them, “Did you receive the holy Spirit when you became believers?” They answered him, “We have never even heard that there is a holy Spirit.”

‘It will come to pass in the last days,’ God says, ‘that I will pour out a portion of my spirit upon all flesh. Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams.

Exalted at the right hand of God, he received the promise of the holy Spirit from the Father and poured it forth, as you [both] see and hear.

Peter [said] to them, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the holy Spirit.

And they were all filled with the holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim.

The God of Abraham, [the God] of Isaac, and [the God] of Jacob, the God of our ancestors, has glorified his servant Jesus whom you handed over and denied in Pilate’s presence, when he had decided to release him.

As they prayed, the place where they were gathered shook, and they were all filled with the holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness. Life in the Christian Community.

But you are not in the flesh; on the contrary, you are in the spirit, if only the Spirit of God dwells in you. Whoever does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.

how much more will the ministry of the Spirit be glorious?

And do not grieve the holy Spirit of God, with which you were sealed for the day of redemption.
