As a result of this, many [of] his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied him.
And those who have turned away from the Lord, and those who have not sought the Lord, who have not inquired of him.
When the young man heard this statement, he went away sad, for he had many possessions.
[To him] Jesus said, “No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what was left behind is fit for the kingdom of God.”
Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding.
Then many of his disciples who were listening said, “This saying is hard; who can accept it?”
But there are some of you who do not believe.” Jesus knew from the beginning the ones who would not believe and the one who would betray him.
So his brothers said to him, “Leave here and go to Judea, so that your disciples also may see the works you are doing.
Jesus then said to those Jews who believed in him, “If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples,
You know that everyone in Asia deserted me, including Phygelus and Hermogenes.
for Demas, enamored of the present world, deserted me and went to Thessalonica, Crescens to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia.
But my just one shall live by faith, and if he draws back I take no pleasure in him.”
They went out from us, but they were not really of our number; if they had been, they would have remained with us. Their desertion shows that none of them was of our number.
