John 19:15

They cried out, “Take him away, take him away! Crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your king?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.”

The scepter shall never depart from Judah, or the mace from between his feet, Until tribute comes to him, and he receives the people’s obedience.

Tell us, then, what is your opinion: Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not?”

But all together they shouted out, “Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us.”

At this, Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves, and judge him according to your law.” The Jews answered him, “We do not have the right to execute anyone,”

When the chief priests and the guards saw him they cried out, “Crucify him, crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves and crucify him. I find no guilt in him.”

For even though they found no grounds for a death sentence, they asked Pilate to have him put to death,

for a crowd of people followed and shouted, “Away with him!”

They listened to him until he said this, but then they raised their voices and shouted, “Take such a one as this away from the earth. It is not right that he should live.”
