Isaiah 24:5

The earth is polluted because of its inhabitants, for they have transgressed laws, violated statutes, broken the ancient covenant.

Is not my house firm before God? He has made an eternal covenant with me, set forth in detail and secured. Will he not bring to fruition all my salvation and my every desire?

therefore, thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: I am about to bring such evil on Jerusalem and Judah that, when any hear of it, their ears shall ring:

because they have done what is evil in my sight and provoked me from the day their ancestors came forth from Egypt until this very day.”

Manasseh misled Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem into doing even greater evil than the nations the Lord had destroyed at the coming of the Israelites.

And ratified in a statute for Jacob, an everlasting covenant for Israel:

My heart pounds within me; death’s terrors fall upon me.

Against an impious nation I send him, and against a people under my wrath I order him To seize plunder, carry off loot, and to trample them like the mud of the street.

For this is a rebellious people, deceitful children, Children who refuse to listen to the instruction of the Lord;

The highways are desolate, travelers have quit the paths, Covenants are broken, witnesses spurned; yet no one gives it a thought.

Thus says the Lord: Where is the bill of divorce with which I dismissed your mother? Or to which of my creditors have I sold you? It was for your sins you were sold, for your rebellions your mother was dismissed.

For wickedness burns like fire, devouring brier and thorn; It kindles the forest thickets, which go up in columns of smoke.

They have returned to the crimes of their ancestors who refused to obey my words. They also have followed and served other gods; the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken the covenant I made with their ancestors.

They shall ask for Zion, seeking out the way. “Come, let us join ourselves to the Lord in an everlasting covenant, never to be forgotten.”

For thus says the Lord God: I will deal with you for what you did; you despised an oath by breaking a covenant.

But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness. They did not observe my statutes, and they rejected my ordinances that bring life to those who keep them. My sabbaths, too, they desecrated grievously. Then I considered pouring out my fury on them in the wilderness to put an end to them,

because they did not carry out my ordinances, but rejected my statutes and desecrated my sabbaths, having eyes only for the idols of their ancestors.

I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them. I will multiply them and put my sanctuary among them forever.

He shall speak against the Most High and wear down the holy ones of the Most High, intending to change the feast days and the law. They shall be handed over to him for a time, two times, and half a time.

and did not hear the voice of the Lord, our God, by walking in his laws given through his servants the prophets.

We have sinned, been wicked and done evil; we have rebelled and turned from your commandments and your laws.

But they, at Adam, violated the covenant; there they betrayed me.

Be careful to observe all my statutes and all my decrees; otherwise the land where I am bringing you to dwell will vomit you out.

during all the time that it lies desolate, enjoying the rest that you would not let it have on your sabbaths when you lived there.

“Get up! Leave, this is no place to rest”; Because of uncleanness that destroys with terrible destruction.

Both were righteous in the eyes of God, observing all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blamelessly.

So Jacob ate and was satisfied, Jeshurun grew fat and kicked; you became fat and gross and gorged. They forsook the God who made them and scorned the Rock of their salvation.

He said, I will hide my face from them, and see what becomes of them. For they are a fickle generation, children with no loyalty in them!

May the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great shepherd of the sheep by the blood of the eternal covenant, Jesus our Lord,

Now [even] the first covenant had regulations for worship and an earthly sanctuary.

If you transgress the covenant of the Lord, your God, which he enjoined on you, to go and serve other gods and bow down to them, the anger of the Lord will flare up against you and you will quickly perish from the good land he has given you.”

So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day and made statutes and ordinances for them at Shechem.
