But the Lord was gracious with Israel and looked on them with compassion because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He was unwilling to destroy them or to cast them out from his presence even up to now.

So the Lord gave Israel a savior, and the Israelites, freed from the power of Aram, dwelt in their own tents as formerly.

Happy the one whom God reproves! The Almighty’s discipline do not reject.

Deliver me, Lord, from the wicked; preserve me from the violent,

Why do the nations protest and the peoples conspire in vain?

God alone is my rock and salvation, my fortress; I shall never fall.

Blessed the one whom you guide, Lord, whom you teach by your instruction,

The discipline of the Lord, my son, do not spurn; do not disdain his reproof;

More tortuous than anything is the human heart, beyond remedy; who can understand it?

I destroy you, Israel! who is there to help you?

What do you plot against the Lord, the one about to bring total destruction? No opponent rises a second time!

you said by the holy Spirit through the mouth of our father David, your servant: ‘Why did the Gentiles rage and the peoples entertain folly?

for although they knew God they did not accord him glory as God or give him thanks. Instead, they became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless minds were darkened.

and every pretension raising itself against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive in obedience to Christ,

You have also forgotten the exhortation addressed to you as sons: “My son, do not disdain the discipline of the Lord or lose heart when reproved by him;

Those whom I love, I reprove and chastise. Be earnest, therefore, and repent.
