Did you fail in a day of adversity, did your strength fall short?

The Lord God has given me a well-trained tongue, That I might know how to answer the weary a word that will waken them. Morning after morning he wakens my ear to hear as disciples do;

The Son of Man came eating and drinking and they said, ‘Look, he is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is vindicated by her works.” Reproaches to Unrepentant Towns.

But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “This man drives out demons only by the power of Beelzebul, the prince of demons.”

“Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They do not wash [their] hands when they eat a meal.”

When he had come into the temple area, the chief priests and the elders of the people approached him as he was teaching and said, “By what authority are you doing these things? And who gave you this authority?”

And although they were attempting to arrest him, they feared the crowds, for they regarded him as a prophet.

Then the Pharisees went off and plotted how they might entrap him in speech.

On a sabbath he went to dine at the home of one of the leading Pharisees, and the people there were observing him carefully.

but the Pharisees and scribes began to complain, saying, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”

The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all these things and sneered at him.

and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted

Then the scribes and Pharisees began to ask themselves, “Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who but God alone can forgive sins?”

Many of them said, “He is possessed and out of his mind; why listen to him?”

When he had said this, one of the temple guards standing there struck Jesus and said, “Is this the way you answer the high priest?”

Therefore, the Jews began to persecute Jesus because he did this on a sabbath.

And there was considerable murmuring about him in the crowds. Some said, “He is a good man,” [while] others said, “No; on the contrary, he misleads the crowd.”

So the Pharisees said to him, “You testify on your own behalf, so your testimony cannot be verified.”

[So] the Jews said to him, “Now we are sure that you are possessed. Abraham died, as did the prophets, yet you say, ‘Whoever keeps my word will never taste death.’

So they picked up stones to throw at him; but Jesus hid and went out of the temple area.

Some of the Pharisees who were with him heard this and said to him, “Surely we are not also blind, are we?”

Therefore, my beloved brothers, be firm, steadfast, always fully devoted to the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

Therefore, since we have this ministry through the mercy shown us, we are not discouraged.

Therefore, we are not discouraged; rather, although our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.

Let us not grow tired of doing good, for in due time we shall reap our harvest, if we do not give up.

and say to them, “Hear, O Israel! Today you are drawing near for battle against your enemies. Do not be weakhearted or afraid, alarmed or frightened by them.

But you, brothers, do not be remiss in doing good.

while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and perfecter of faith. For the sake of the joy that lay before him he endured the cross, despising its shame, and has taken his seat at the right of the throne of God.

You have also forgotten the exhortation addressed to you as sons: “My son, do not disdain the discipline of the Lord or lose heart when reproved by him;

Therefore, holy “brothers,” sharing in a heavenly calling, reflect on Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession,

When he was insulted, he returned no insult; when he suffered, he did not threaten; instead, he handed himself over to the one who judges justly.

Moreover, you have endurance and have suffered for my name, and you have not grown weary.

But you must fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart, for you have seen the great things the Lord has done among you.
