He himself went on ahead of them, bowing to the ground seven times, until he reached his brother.

Joseph, as governor of the country, was the one who sold grain to all the people of the land. When Joseph’s brothers came, they bowed down to him with their faces to the ground.

Israel their father then told them: “If it must be so, then do this: Put some of the land’s best products in your baggage and take them down to the man as gifts: some balm and honey, gum and resin, and pistachios and almonds.

“Your servant our father is still alive and doing well,” they said, as they knelt and bowed down.

May his foes kneel before him, his enemies lick the dust.

Moses went out to meet his father-in-law, bowed down, and then kissed him. Having greeted each other, they went into the tent.

for it is written: “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bend before me, and every tongue shall give praise to God.”
