Genesis 35:7

The Lord appeared to Abram and said: To your descendants I will give this land. So Abram built an altar there to the Lord who had appeared to him.

From there he moved on to the hill country east of Bethel, pitching his tent with Bethel to the west and Ai to the east. He built an altar there to the Lord and invoked the Lord by name.

Jacob departed from Beer-sheba and proceeded toward Haran.

And there was the Lord standing beside him and saying: I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you are lying I will give to you and your descendants.

He was afraid and said: “How awesome this place is! This is nothing else but the house of God, the gateway to heaven!”

He named that place Bethel, whereas the former name of the town had been Luz.

This stone that I have set up as a sacred pillar will be the house of God. Of everything you give me, I will return a tenth part to you without fail.”

After Jacob resumed his journey, he came to the land of the Kedemites.

I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed a sacred pillar and made a vow to me. Get up now! Leave this land and return to the land of your birth.’”

God said to Jacob: Go up now to Bethel. Settle there and build an altar there to the God who appeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Esau.

Jacob named the place where God spoke to him Bethel. Jacob’s Family.

Let us now go up to Bethel so that I might build an altar there to the God who answered me in the day of my distress and who has been with me wherever I have gone.”

Moses built an altar there, which he named Yahweh-nissi;

The circuit of the city shall be eighteen thousand cubits. From now on the name of the city is “The Lord is there.”

So Gideon built there an altar to the Lord and called it Yahweh-shalom. To this day it is still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.
