Yet I know that the king of Egypt will not allow you to go unless his hand is forced.

Pharaoh, however, hardened his heart and would not listen to them, just as the Lord had foretold. First Plague: Water Turned into Blood.

Then the Lord said to Moses: Pharaoh is obstinate in refusing to let the people go.

But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he would not listen to them, just as the Lord had said to Moses. Seventh Plague: The Hail.

So the Lord said to Moses and Aaron: Each of you take handfuls of soot from a kiln, and in the presence of Pharaoh let Moses scatter it toward the sky.

Those stiff-necked in the face of reproof in an instant will be shattered beyond cure.

Because I know that you are stubborn and that your neck is an iron sinew and your forehead bronze,

But when his heart became proud and his spirit hardened by insolence, he was put down from his royal throne and deprived of his glory;

Consequently, he has mercy upon whom he wills, and he hardens whom he wills.
