Set limits for the people all around, saying: Take care not to go up the mountain, or even to touch its edge. All who touch the mountain must be put to death.

Then the Lord told Moses: Go down and warn the people not to break through to the Lord in order to see him; otherwise many of them will be struck down.

Moses told Aaron everything the Lord had sent him to say, and all the signs he had commanded him to do.

Be not hasty in your utterance and let not your heart be quick to utter a promise in God’s presence. God is in heaven and you are on earth; therefore let your words be few.

His leader shall be one of his own, and his ruler shall emerge from his ranks. He shall approach me when I summon him; Why else would he dare approach me?—oracle of the Lord.

Moses then said to Aaron, “This is as the Lord said: Through those near to me I will be sanctified; in the sight of all the people I will obtain glory.” But Aaron said nothing.

But the Lord said to him, ‘Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.

You shall keep a trowel in your equipment and, when you go outside to relieve yourself, you shall dig a hole with it and then cover up your excrement.

for they could not bear to hear the command: “If even an animal touches the mountain, it shall be stoned.”

The commander of the army of the Lord replied to Joshua, “Remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.

We ourselves heard this voice come from heaven while we were with him on the holy mountain.
