When the child grew, she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses; for she said, “I drew him out of the water.” Moses’ Flight to Midian.

“Where is he?” he asked his daughters. “Why did you leave the man there? Invite him to have something to eat.”

Meanwhile Moses was tending the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian. Leading the flock beyond the wilderness, he came to the mountain of God, Horeb.

After this Moses returned to Jethro his father-in-law and said to him, “Let me return to my kindred in Egypt, to see whether they are still living.” Jethro replied to Moses, “Go in peace.”

Moses said to Hobab, son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses’ father-in-law, “We are setting out for the place concerning which the Lord has said, ‘I will give it to you.’ Come with us, and we will be generous toward you, for the Lord has promised prosperity to Israel.”

Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses on the pretext of the Cushite woman he had married; for he had in fact married a Cushite woman.

Moses fled when he heard this and settled as an alien in the land of Midian, where he became the father of two sons.

Indeed, religion with contentment is a great gain.

he chose to be ill-treated along with the people of God rather than enjoy the fleeting pleasure of sin.

Let your life be free from love of money but be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never forsake you or abandon you.”

and the rich one in his lowliness, for he will pass away “like the flower of the field.”
