The king of Egypt told the Hebrew midwives, one of whom was called Shiphrah and the other Puah,

Pharaoh then commanded all his people, “Throw into the Nile every boy that is born, but you may let all the girls live.”

But when the tenants saw the son, they said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and acquire his inheritance.’

He dealt shrewdly with our people and oppressed [our] ancestors by forcing them to expose their infants, that they might not survive.

By faith Moses was hidden by his parents for three months after his birth, because they saw that he was a beautiful child, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict.

Its tail swept away a third of the stars in the sky and hurled them down to the earth. Then the dragon stood before the woman about to give birth, to devour her child when she gave birth.
