“Before all this happens, however, they will seize and persecute you, they will hand you over to the synagogues and to prisons, and they will have you led before kings and governors because of my name.

The cohort commander came forward, arrested him, and ordered him to be secured with two chains; he tried to find out who he might be and what he had done.

So he took him and brought him to the commander and explained, “The prisoner Paul called me and asked that I bring this young man to you; he has something to say to you.”

Paul replied, “I would pray to God that sooner or later not only you but all who listen to me today might become as I am except for these chains.”

But the Lord said to him, “Go, for this man is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before Gentiles, kings, and Israelites,

If we are afflicted, it is for your encouragement and salvation; if we are encouraged, it is for your encouragement, which enables you to endure the same sufferings that we suffer.

Now I myself, Paul, urge you through the gentleness and clemency of Christ, I who am humble when face to face with you, but brave toward you when absent,

Are they ministers of Christ? (I am talking like an insane person.) I am still more, with far greater labors, far more imprisonments, far worse beatings, and numerous brushes with death.

As for me, brothers, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case, the stumbling block of the cross has been abolished.

It is I, Paul, who am telling you that if you have yourselves circumcised, Christ will be of no benefit to you.

Now those who belong to Christ [Jesus] have crucified their flesh with its passions and desires.

This was according to the eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord,

So I ask you not to lose heart over my afflictions for you; this is your glory. Prayer for the Readers.

To me, the very least of all the holy ones, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the inscrutable riches of Christ,

I, then, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to live in a manner worthy of the call you have received,

for which I am an ambassador in chains, so that I may have the courage to speak as I must. A Final Message.

It is right that I should think this way about all of you, because I hold you in my heart, you who are all partners with me in grace, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel.

Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ on behalf of his body, which is the church,

The greeting is in my own hand, Paul’s. Remember my chains. Grace be with you.

at the same time, pray for us, too, that God may open a door to us for the word, to speak of the mystery of Christ, for which I am in prison,

May the Lord grant mercy to the family of Onesiphorus because he often gave me new heart and was not ashamed of my chains.

So do not be ashamed of your testimony to our Lord, nor of me, a prisoner for his sake; but bear your share of hardship for the gospel with the strength that comes from God.

Paul, a prisoner for Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon, our beloved and our co-worker,

Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, greets you,

I rather urge you out of love, being as I am, Paul, an old man, and now also a prisoner for Christ Jesus.

Do not be afraid of anything that you are going to suffer. Indeed, the devil will throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will face an ordeal for ten days. Remain faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
